Weekend Excursions

These few weekends, I've been exploring parts of

Bangkok and Thailand a bit more.
I went down to
Pattaya, met up with PG to go to Koh
Samet.  Pretty location and very easy to get to.

Next is Wat Po, I've been to Wat Po many years ago, but it's always refreshing to visit again.  I especially enjoy the peace and serenity just strolling in the temple grounds, there's a certain calm and timelessness.

Last weekend, I visited Suan Pakkard Museum.  It's a group
of Thai-style houses built by this prince, with some interesting collection of personal effects, a Ban Chiang museum, and another showcasing khon arts.  Think Jim Thompson's house, multiply by 4-5, and a bit more Ayutthaya.

Afterwhich, just 2 corners away, there's this rather kooky looking
restaurant in a house called Once Upon A Time.  They offera variety of dishes of Bangkok/Central Thailand origin which are not seen often nowadays.  They even have their prices in satangs (like cents to the dollar)!  It's a quiet place to while away some time.

They are so special, that even their kids play with Barbie and Ken in traditional Thai costume - but of course!

Dialogue from a bad Thai soap opera reads, "We're so glad you could stay with us, I have reserved the purple room just for you...."

Bye for now.
