I should have given more chance to talk about things rather than just pull out. I didn't believe things would change, (afterall, why should they for little ol' me). Plus I will have to take some time off to run to the embassy for my student visa (something new I learnt if I intend to stay on longer in France after the course), I didn't think it was worth staying on. Now with this gout, I'm on 3 days MC, and prob shouldn't take 16hrs/day anymore. I offered to come in part time but it was turned down.
What does it mean for me in future if I still intend to work in a kitchen? The problem of gout can be under control through diet, so I will still be able to work standing up for extended hours. Of course, I don't think many staff operate 16 hr days (if, at all) without a break.
We're all learning, at 34, I still am, especially in new working environment such as this, who knows the next place might be better or worse, but if it will be a long term stint where I feel I will have more stake in matters, I will have to feedback and speak up (in fact, more incentive to do so), change things or myself if necessary. I don't mind the work (read previous post), but I guess it is naive to believe that everyone plays fair and equal in an utopia of a kitchen.
