Obstacles

I was supposed to fly out tonite.
And by that I mean, I am not. My visa is not ready! It's a long story. But basically, one of the documents I have to submit for my visa application is the original letter of acceptance by the school. I received a scanned copy by email, and hoped the original will arrive soon. It did not, (up till today!) In any case, I called them last week urgently, and they re-sent it by Fedex, under my charge! I wonder if they didn't send the first original out in the first place.....

A friend in Paris is putting me up at his place for the first week and I hope to arrive before he flies out for his holidays on Sat. When he's back, I will move into the furnished apartment of 46, rue Dombasle, 75015, Paris, France, for additional 2 weeks, until the end of my course. Wow, it's nice to have an address in Paris! If only for a while....

Lately, I've been thinking only of the negative side of things. Many people came forward, saying I must be feeling very excited now. Honestly, I haven't felt that way, due to the few uncertainties before, during and at the end of this course. All of my previous trips to Europe were filled with anticipation, planning what I want to do, see, eat/drink, places to visit, etc, where to stay.... already dreaming of the architecture around me. I guess those were vacation. Then again, why should this trip be a chore? I should take a step back and relish this moment while I can. Me, in Paris, walking down those streets, taking a rest in those parks, free, living, breathing....

Le Cordon Bleu has been in the news recently. The controversial article of a Singapore civil servant taking 5 weeks off, and spending $46,000, with his family (http://www.mrbrown.com/blog/2009/01/singapore-gahmen-becomes-famous-overseas-for-its-french-cooking-skills.html); the movie Julie and Julia (or is it the other way round); and now an American's experience in the book "The Sharper Your Knife, The Less You Cry". http://kathleenflinn.com/sharper.html
Strangely, I spoke to a few Parisians, and they haven't heard of Le Cordon Bleu?! Maybe it's one of those things which are more famous overseas.

Meanwhile, keeping my fingers crossed they expedite my case.....
