Eiffel Tower Turns 120!

Today marks the 120th anniversary of the Eiffel Tower, to think that it was only meant to be a temporary installation for 1889's Paris exposition!

At 8pm, there was a light show which I watched from the sides of Pont Neuf. There was the scintillating lights, and then various displays of blue, red, white, purple, chasing light, partial illumination, etc.... I was of course without a good camera and can only leave it to your imagination to work out the image!

Incidentally, the Eiffel Tower, though very photogenic, is not my favorite monument in Paris. The Arc De Triomphe is. Its grandeur, weight and sturdiness with rays of roads spinning off it is a sight to be beheld! Especially if you approach from Champs Elysees, that tiny rocky square becomes bigger and bigger. I can sit by the side of the avenue and admire it for hours.

Today also marks the end of daylight saving hours in France. At 3 a.m., it will become 2 a.m. It marks the beginning of colder days, and mornings of -5C, where I'll ask myself, what the hell I'm doing here!! Hope to catch some warmth of S.E Asia when that happens!
